"Antonia has Autism and Dyspraxia. she is in an "arched" position for large periods which currently impacts on her lower back.

WellbeingandErgonomics was invited to carry out a workplace assessment for Antonia.

Antonia has Autism and Dyspraxia, which make her very routine in her day-to-day life, including at work. Her Autism can also make her quite uncomfortable with personal space and touch. The Dyspraxia side’s main issues are that she can be very unsteady on her feet, as co-ordination and balance are hugely impacted with this condition. Her duties within the factory are all assembly tasks.

Her main duty for a large portion of the week is to put a tab in the battery pack to stop the battery from making a connection until it gets to the end-user. This is just one part of a number of assembly jobs to make products such as Black Boxes for young drivers to monitor speed etc. Antonia’s duties mean she is in an “arched” position for large periods, which currently impacts her lower back. She is not on a conveyor line. It is just a desk workstation with products trays by the side of each station. The company have already made some adaptations such as putting the trays at chair height to stop all employees from having to bend down to put each completed product in a tray on the floor, but despite this Antonia is suffering from a bad back and lower back issues. She also has sciatica issues.

Antonia’s old chair wasn’t fit for purpose and it wasn’t even ergonomic. She couldn’t fit in the chair comfortably and couldn’t even adjust the chair to the required height.

Office chair with no armrest is totally against ergonomic rules.

"My new chair is so much more comfortable and has made life so much easier for doing my job. I do not struggle with my back and now I sit with the right posture."

ANTONIA

It was our pleasure helping Antonia and helping her get the comfort that she totally deserves.

Our WellbeingandErgonomics expert carried out a 360-degree Workplace Assessment by visiting Antonia’s place of work and seeing her doing the job. We have learnt a lot of things about Antonia through our observations and taking photos and videos so we understand her better.  Prior to taking pictures/videos, we did ask her permission, her parent’s permission and permission from her workplace.

360-degree Workplace Assessment to identify and observe problems to find the right solution.

Assessment report to receive help from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from the 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲.

Designed a unique Ergonomic Chair with functionalities that Antonia can easily use and operate easily. The chair has a 4d adjustable armrest so Antonia always sits in the chair and comes out of the chair when moving. Lumbar support to provide extra support to her back, pocket springs advanced seating technology, adjustable seat and back and much more…

Made adjustments to her workspace so she doesn’t bend down and work with the right posture.

Brand matches the chair’s fabric colour.

The sustainable advanced seating solution that anyone can use if Antonia is not using it.

"WellbeingandErgonomics was great to deal with, organising to visit the factory to take videos and notes of Antonia's current seating position and explaining fully how he thought he could help. Very organised and detailed experience, so thank you for all your help, but most importantly thank you for a fabulous chair!!"
