Yoga or Pilates?

I get asked this a lot. My own preference and recommendation would be Pilates, but it may not be for everyone.

Yoga focuses on mindful deep breathing, physical activity and meditation with the aim of uniting mind, body and spirit.


Pilates comprises of small targeted movements that engage the stabilising core muscles.
Both are low impact and focus on using body weight resistance, both focus on deep breathing and both required mental focus. Both have been should to reduce stress and improve wellbeing.
Both are beneficial in pregnancy.


Both need minimal equipment can be done from home – handy at the moment!


If you prefer a more structured workout minus the cardio, I would recommend Pilates.


If you prefer a more holistic and spiritual workout, I would recommend Yoga.


If you have any underlying issues or injuries, I recommend discussing this with your treating specialist before undertaking any new regime!
